Phone apps are like chocolates- wonderful until you have way too many. I try to limit the number of apps on my phone due to space restrictions and an overabundance of notifications, but certain ones make my life as a young professional on social media undeniably easier. Here is a quick list with three of my current faves which have helped me with image editing, layouts, and of course, connecting with others:
Canva is a popular app and for good reason- it was indispensable when I first started my business. I love photography and marketing, but I’ve always found creating layouts from scratch really difficult. The app/site helped me build everything from social posts and covers to flyers and business cards.
Canva lets users choose from a variety of preset dimensions or create their own canvas. It offers predesigned layouts for pretty much every social post, cover image, and coupon possibility imaginable. If you don’t already have them, they offer free stock photos and graphics as well as ones you can license for $1 to design with for 24hrs.
- Adobe Photoshop Express/ Photoshop Fix
I listed these two apps together because they each represent a small piece of Adobe Photoshop’s desktop application. I have loved Adobe products since I was in high school and that has not changed a bit in almost ten years. These mobile, mini versions of Photoshop are completely free to users and they are amazing for on-the-go editing (the kind that Instagram can’t do).
The Fix App:
This app boasts Photoshop’s red eye removal tool, its healing brush, and clone tool. It also includes spot-targeted light and dark brushes, color adjustments, and level adjustments- enough to make any mobile photographer happy!
The Express App:
Some of the tools available in Fix overlap with Express, however they are suited for different purposes. In addition to standard sharpening tools (which automatically zoom in for easier viewing!), color adjustments, and cropping, Express offers filters that are a bit more advanced than those available in other apps (my favorite is “Splash” which selectively removes/highlights colors).
Muses is my very favorite new application- a must-have for both small businesses and influencers building their brand. It is currently a small network dedicated to collaboration and the community is wonderful. I have met (and worked with) quite a few fabulous influencers and bloggers thanks to this app.
Muses is separated into a few sections which allows you to work with folks interested in the same category. In each section there is a wide array of groups for you to join. Membership is free for the first five days and then ten dollars per month, but the trial period is definitely worth giving a shot.
There are two features which are a bit of a drawback. First, is the group format. Currently, they only support a group chat feature, which can make things a bit overwhelming at first, but it is manageable. Second, users currently are only able to join three groups using the basic level of membership. They are actively working on both of these features to make the app more user friendly!
These three apps have been indispensable for me in running my business, networking, and creating meaningful content, I hope you love them as much as I do! Do you have favorites I missed? Let me know in the comments!
